About the assignment
Who isn’t familiar with the iconic Driestar Educatief building in Gouda surroundings? The Christian Reformed Driestar University of Applied Sciences, part of Driestar Educatief, offers a wide selection of programs, courses, consultancy, and research in the field of education and upbringing, as can be read on their website.
In early 2024, Driestar Educatief commissioned us to furnish various collaboration and presentation spaces for students, as well as the renovated media library with an innovation lab.

About the situation
The current outdated media library is being redesigned, with the desk being relocated to facilitate various functions such as group work, studying, and meeting. The mezzanine is also being redesigned to create a pleasant quiet space. A meeting place will be created centrally in the space for the media library and innovation lab.
The “group work” spaces must be inspiring and functional, enabling students to learn and collaborate in an optimal environment. Three key concepts apply to the “group work” spaces: industrial, brainstorming studio, and active collaboration.
Design new media library
About the result
The renovated media library has a fantastically designed three-function space. A cozy meeting area with a lounge sofa, beanbag chairs, a magazine wall, and a reading table has been created. The entire space is invitingly decorated with cushions and plants. The beautiful circular space is logically divided with low and high bookcases, and spaces have been created for meetings and group work. A quiet, tranquil area has been created on the upper mezzanine where students can concentrate at a desk or retreat to one of the acoustic lounge chairs.
The group work spaces are decorated differently, with stimulating colors on the walls and playful ottomans for relaxing. There are spaces for brainstorming and quiet areas for focusing. Beautiful presentation rooms have also been furnished with active high tables and stools.
